Day 17
“Follow the white rabbit.”—Trinity, The Matrix
Is my time here done?
The themes are starting to repeat: float, blah, blah… shake, blah, blah… bounce, blah, blah.
Our teacher bends his knees to the beat, and says, “Feel the Up, Up.”
“Now, feel the Down, Down.”
Unexpectedly, he switches it around: when we go up, he says “down” and when we go down, he says “up.”
This fucks me up.
It throws me out of sync with the entire class. I guess I’m the guy who can’t tell “up” from “down”.
“Keep the up in the down. And the down in the up.”
Whoa.
There’s something deeper here. A way of seeing and sensing the world. The words sound like what Morpheus says to Neo, or Mr. Miyagi says to the Karate Kid, or Yoda says to Luke.
When I was a kid, I dreamed of having a Kung Fu teacher. I didn’t expect to find a whole community of them in a dance studio in Tel Aviv.
I’m only at the beginning.
The hole goes deeper.
Down I go.
